5 Great Foods for Healthy Eating

Sometimes people think that to incorporate healthier food into their diet that they have to eat food that takes a long time to prepare, that is expensive and found only at novelty food stores, or that doesn’t taste good.  Not so!  Here are 6 healthy foods that taste good, require little preparation time, and taste delightfully yummy.

These foods are an excellent source of fiber, vitamins, minerals, and other nutrients.  They are low in calories which mean that you can eat more of them.  They also may help reduce heart disease.

Apples.  Fresh apples have Vitamin C that helps to form connective tissue, helps your body absorb iron, and helps to keep your glucose levels and cholesterol levels low.  Include apples in your lunch or in salads at dinnertime.

Blueberries.  Not only do blueberries contain lots of Vitamin C, they also help improve short-term memory and prevent chronic diseases.  Have some on your cereal at breakfast or a handful for a snack in the afternoon.

Almonds. These nuts are packed to the brim with fiber, iron, calcium, and Vitamin E.  They also have monounsaturated fat which may help in lowering blood cholesterol.  These are easy to pack in a lunch or have as an appetizer before supper.

Broccoli. Broccoli salad, steamed broccoli, raw broccoli with a tad of vegetable dip are good ways to incorporate this food in your diet.  Broccoli is chockfull of Vitamin A which has been linked to maintaining good eye health.

Spinach.  This healthy vitamin contains magnesium, Vitamin A and C, and folate help keep your skin and hair healthy.  Spinach also protects against night blindness and macular degeneration.  Steamed or in a toss salad, spinach is an easy and healthy food to add to your diet.

Vegetable juice.  This juice is one of the easiest ways to get the nutrients and vitamins from many other vegetables.  It helps fight prostate cancer and reduces the risk of having a heart attack.  This grab-and-go drink can be enjoyed as a drink for breakfast, as a snack or at any time of the day!
